Network Communications for Data Loggers

Campbell Scientific offer a variety of fixed line networking interfaces. The NL100 allows a fixed IP to be assigned to the datalogger enabling direct access over the internet. The MD485 is the current multi-drop networking option using RS485 twisted pair cabling. The MD485 supercedes the MD9 which continues to be offered in support of existing MD9 networks.

MD485 Multidrop Interface

MD485 Multidrop Interface for communicating with a data logger via RS-485
The MD485 is an intelligent RS-485 interface that permits a PC to address and communicate with one or more dataloggers over a distance of up to 1000 metres. This interface also supports datalogger-to-datalogger communications, callback from a remote datalogger, and PC-to-printer communications. LoggerNet software is used to initiate and control the communications link.

  • Connects to RS-485 networks
  • Provides three interface ports: RS-485, RS-232, CS I/O
  • Uses twisted pair cable between RS-485 links
  • Maximum cable run in a network is 1000m
  • Can be configured to handle multiple RS-485 protocols and all CSI communication modes
  • Not compatible with MD9 networks

MD9 Multidrop Interface

The MD9 links up to 200 dataloggers on a single COAX cable. The system requires one addressable MD9 per datalogger, plus one MD9 at the base station.

NL100 / NL105 Network Link Interface

Network link interface for data loggers
  • Communicate via a local area network or dedicated internal connections
  • 10baseT Ethernet peripherals communicate via TCP/IP
  • Supported by PC208W 3.2 or higher
  • Uses datalogger RS-232 or CS I/O port to communicate with a computer

NL115 Ethernet Interface & CompactFlash Module

NL115 combine network communications with removable compact flash card memory expansion

Campbell Scientific's NL115 enables 10baseT Ethernet communications and stores data on a removable CompactFlash card. This small, rugged communication device connects to the 40-pin peripheral port on a CR1000 or CR3000 datalogger.

The picture shows the NL115 mounted on a CR1000 logger.

NL120 Ethernet Module

NL120 allows datalogger communication
Campbell Scientific's NL120 allows the datalogger to communicate over a local network or a dedicated Internet connection via TCP/IP. This includes program send and data collection which are straightforward operations which are accomplished through LoggerNet's Connect Screen.
