Acoustic Snow Depth Sensor
The SR50A is Campbell Scientific's new generation acoustic snow depth sensor measuring time of flight to determine snow depth or water level. Developed by Campbell Scientific Canada, uses a multiple echo processing algorithm to help ensure measurement accuracy. It is designed to work in the extreme conditions where the measurement of snow depth is likely to be required. The unit is mounted facing down to the ground before any snow falls to determine the sensor to ground height, then as snow falls the sensor measures the rise and fall in surface height.
Speed of Sound Compensation
The SR50AT, a variation of the SR50A, incorporates an external temperature sensor for simple speed of sound variation compensation or an existing on-site air temperature sensor can be used with the SR50A.
Heated Variant
Both the SR50A and the SR50AT snow sensors are available with a heater to prevent icing, it is also possible for a customer to retrofit a heater to their existing sensors.
