Problem with CS650 measurement

Jamal Aug 24, 2020 06:46 PM

Hi,

I'm using CS650 for soil parameters measuring.

When using "M3!" I get  VWC= 9999999 m^3/m^3 and when I use "M4!" command I get "NAN".

------------------------------------

"M4!" result:

VWC= NAN

EC=NAN

T= NAN

P=NAN

PA=NAN

VR=NAN

------------------------------------

"M3!" result:

VWC= 9999999

EC=1.59

T= 23.62

P=9999999

PA=5.41

VR=5.93

------------------

Thanks.

From the CS650 Manual:

M3! and M4! Commands

Typically, the M4! command is used to report volumetric water content, electrical conductivity, temperature, permittivity, period, and voltage ratio. The M4! command reports the sensor calculated values even if those values are likely to be erroneous.

The M3! command uses several logical tests built into the operating system to ensure that the sensors do not report a number that is likely to be erroneous. Erroneous readings are either outside the sensor operational limits or outside of published accuracy specifications. When one of the following conditions occurs, the logical test replaces the calculated value with another value such as 9999999 or NAN.

I wonder if something might be wrong with the sensor.

Have you checked the sensor using Device Configuration Utility (section 8 of the manual) just to see and double-check the readings? Maybe even try cycling the power to the CS350 by disconnecting and then reconnecting the 12V line to the sensor (red wire). Wait about 10 seconds before powering up the sensor just to make sure it gets a good reset.
