PPP- or PDP-authentication with CR350-CELL215?

Chasper B. Aug 24, 2023 07:00 PM

Dear Campbell-support and dear forum

On an earlier station with a CR300-CELL215 (with OS CR300-CELL215.Std.10.04) the settings with PDP-authentication work pretty well.
However with a CR350-CELL215 for a new station, the corresponding settings didn't work. By try and error I put the authentication in the PPP-settings and it worked. I don't understand exactly what's the difference between this two possibilities. Can someone help with a simple explanation or a link to such one?

I'm using both setups in Switzerland with Swisscom as provider, where we have an own APN to get a fix IP within our internal network.

Thank you very much for your help and best regards, Chasper

Dear forum

In Switzerland our provider Swisscom recently shutdown the 3G cellular network, we knew it and changed older modems last year. As mentioned above, we have an own APN and every modem has its own credentials to get a fix IP, so that we can access them from remote.

Anyway, I configured several CELL215 with PPP-authentication, as I couldn't figure out when to use PPP and when PDP. This worked pretty well, the modem was connected in the LTE-network and I thought nothing of it. - Now after the shutdown, the modem can't establish the connection anymore. By try and error I found out, that the credentials must be set for PDP-authentication. After adapting this, it works again as expected.

So, if you have some similar trouble too, try to set both authentication methods.

Best regards, Chasper
