What parts with part numbers are required for preventative maintenance?
For example, internal battery or desiccant. The manual indicates the lithium thionyl chloride battery should be replaced but does not indicate specific part numbers or additional information on the battery itself. and there is no information listed under Ordering Information, Replacement Parts.
Additionally do you offer the CCFC camera, 18-8 Mounting Screws?
Many Thanks
Campbell Scientific does not sell the battery and desiccant separately, because it is recommended to send the camera to the factory for the service. Dismantling the camera to replace the battery and reassembly is a delicate procedure. A misstep can compromise the waterproof seal.
The mounting screws for the bottom of the camera per the manual are ¼-20 x 0.5-inch Hex bolt. If needing replacements of those, it is recommended to purchase from a local hardware store.
I ran into the same issue with the CCFC manual. It lists the lithium-thionyl chloride battery as a service item but gives zero detail on the actual part. From what I found, it uses a standard 3.6V Li-SOCl₂ cell, but the exact size depends on the camera revision, so you still need to confirm whether it’s a 1/2AA, AA, or a custom pack. My unit used a basic Tadiran-type cell, but the manual should really spell it out.
I couldn’t find any official desiccant or internal maintenance kits either. It looks like they expect you to source the battery yourself and reuse the existing desiccant unless it’s obviously saturated.
As for the 18-8 screws, those are just standard stainless fasteners. You can get them from any hardware supplier once you know the length and thread pitch. The camera manufacturer doesn’t seem to sell them as a separate part.
Hi Michael,
Good question—preventative maintenance is crucial for long-term reliable operation of the CCFC camera. Here are some thoughts:
If the manual mentions the lithium thionyl chloride battery but does not give a part number, I would recommend contacting Campbell Scientific’s parts department and providing the camera model so they can confirm the correct battery replacement.
For desiccants, internal seals, and screws (like the 18-8 mounting screws), check if there is an accessory list in the camera’s datasheet or older revision manuals.
If the specific part numbers are not published in the replacement parts section, it might mean these parts are considered calibration or service kit items rather than standard user-replaceable parts.
I would also suggest maintaining a log of when you replaced items like the battery and desiccant so you can schedule replacements proactively.
