Maximum of sensor in one SDI-12

Chakir Jan 24, 2017 04:53 PM

Hello

I am wondering, what is the maximum of sensors that I can put on a single port SDI-12,whether on a CR1000 or in CR1000

62 if your sensors allow the extra addressing

0 (zero) through to 9 are the standard address that all sensors must accept, "0" is the default address from factory.

then there are "A" through "Z" and also "a" through to "z"

You also have a limit on total cable length that is connected to the same port.

From SDI-12.org site:

"The SDI-12 bus is capable of having at least 10 sensors connected to it, each with 200 feet of cable. With
fewer sensors, longer cable lengths are possible."

and

"When an SDI-12 device has its transmitter on, its direct current (DC) source resistance
must be greater than 1000 ohms and less than 2000 ohms. Due to this impedance, the maximum
cable length depends on the capacitance of all cables connected to the data line."

Last week we successfully communicated using SDI-12 with a cable length 1850 feet. Didn't check if we could go further. Single sensor.
